Thank you, Mr. Chesterton

One of my favorite quotes is by G.K. Chesterton.

“Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist,
but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”

I also found others by him that I liked so much
that I wanted to share them with you.
“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought;
and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.”

“Do not be so open-minded that your brains fall out.”
“You say grace before meals. All right. But I say grace before the concert and the opera, and grace before the play and pantomime, and grace before I open a book, and grace before sketching, painting, swimming, fencing, boxing, walking, playing, dancing and grace before I dip the pen in the ink.”
“There are two ways to get enough. One is to continue to accumulate
more and more. The other is to desire less.”
“There is the great lesson of 'Beauty and the Beast,' that a thing
must be loved before it is lovable.”

Learning

This week I had a midterm for one of
my college classes.
I don't know about you but I get nervous
before taking a test/exam/midterm. Nervous
to the point that often I have dreams about
it and I wake up thinking, "Oh gosh,
everything I studied for just left
 my brain!"
The things I do like about taking an
exam are:
*Allowance to have more coffee
AND
Realizing that maybe I've remembered
more I've what I have been learning,
 than I thought I did.
"The more studying you do for the exam,
the less sure you are as to which answer
they want."

"Few minds wear out; most rust out."
~Christian Nextell Bovee

"When I was young I observed that nine
out of ten things I did were failures, so i did
ten times more work."
~Benard Shaw

The Wisdom of Winnie the Pooh

“If the person you are talking to doesn't appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.”

'It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like', "What about lunch?"

“If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so
I never have to live without you.”
“A bear, however hard he tries, grows tubby without exercise.”

“Just because an animal is large, it doesn't mean he doesn't want kindness

Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. "Pooh," he whispered.
"Yes, Piglet?"
"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw, "I just wanted to be sure of you."”

Rest

"Sometimes the most urgent thing you can possibly do is take a complete rest."
Ashleigh Brilliant

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time."
John Lubbock
"Rest when you're weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work."
Ralph Marston
Last night I thought I was going to take a bath but as I began to draw the water I had the silliest thought go through my head, "I'm too tired to take a bath." So I turned the tap off, went to my room, crawled into bed, and fell asleep. It felt wonderful. Sometimes what my body needs more than a bath is simply rest.

What is Love?

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of four to eight-year-olds:
“What does love mean?”
“When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love."~Rebecca, age 8

“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.” ~Terri, age 4
“Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.” ~Bobby, age 5
“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."~ Noelle, age 7

“Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.” ~Mary Ann, age 4
“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth.” ~Billy, age 4
“Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.” ~ Tommy, age 6
“Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs." ~Chrissy, age 6
“You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.” ~Jessica, age 8

Words

I don't always say the right things, or speak when I
should; maybe that's why I like
other people's words so much. They so often
say so eloquently what I wish I could.

Simple Things

"It is the sweet,
simple things of
life which are
the real ones
after all."
~Laura Ingalls Wilder
"To find the universal
elements enough;to
find the air and the
water exhilarating;
to be refreshed
by a morning walk or
an evening saunter...
to be thrilled by the
stars at night; to be
elated over a bird's
nest or a wildflower
in spring- these are
some of the rewards
of the simple life."

~John Burroughs
"The best things in life
are nearest:Breath in your
nostrils, light in your eyes,
flowers at your feet, duties
at your hand, the path of right
just before you. Then do not grasp
at the stars, but do life's plain,
common work as it comes, certain
that daily duties and daily
bread are the sweetest
things in life."

~Robert Louis Stevenson
