Dressing for Saturday Morning

I love dresses. I love how a dress can make it feel like

you are going to do something special.

 Now that I live in the south, 

I've realized that a dress can be for looks and comfort. 

My mother always said color is good; 

I think she would like these ones.

In The Loop

My sister, Susan, has been making The Loop scarf. Last week when 

she was visiting, we were in a clothing store when she saw one that was two toned. 

Do you know what she did? She went home and made her own... yep, if I didn't love her I'd almost dislike her for her talent:)

A Layer of Fall

I can  feel it beginning to turn into fall.

The Little Black Dress

I have a little black dress hanging in the back of my closet

I have been working on a little project for my friend's upcoming wedding. I think a man in a suit can look so handsome, especially when it is for a special occasion. That extra effort to get the tie 'just so' or making sure the shoes are polished...all of the effort I can guarantee you will be noticed by a lady somewhere at sometime:)

Vintage Inspired (Ruche)

One of my favorite things to do when I am home visiting my father and mother is to go up into the attic and look at my mom's old dresses. I climb up the stairs, open up the window to let the sunlight in and then pull out one dress at a time. I try to imagine what it would have been like to have been standing in front of the mirror with layers of satin, lace and ribbon surrounding me.
There is a store whose clothing is beautiful, simple and very feminine and when I look at them, it reminds me of a different time...like the times when I have been in the attic daydreaming while holding one of my mother's gown.

Rubber boots

One day when I was in Northern Ireland I was walking down a street, with the rain falling down when I glanced through the window of a shoe store and sitting there were a pair of rubber boots. For the next few weeks I was there, whenever I would see those boots they would make me smile. All I could see in my head when I saw them was an image of a little boy or girl sploshing around in the rain puddles with their rubber boots on, not caring about getting dirty or wet, but only caring about how high the water would go each time their rubbered sole would come down. One day, if I ever own a pair of rubber boots, I will wear them with a little spring dress, a packed lunch to eat in the park and maybe, just maybe jump into a puddle:)

The elegance of pearls

When I was little, I remember seeing a pair of pearl earrings that my mother had, and thinking "they are soooo pretty" After I discovered how a pearl was created ("The formation of a natural pearl begins when a foreign substance slips into the oyster. The oyster's natural reaction is to cover up that irritant to protect itself. The mantle covers the irritant with layers of the same substance that is used to create the shell;this eventually forms a pearl) I thought they were even more lovely.
Elegant, simple, classic.
