My apologies...

I apologize that is has been 18 days,
15 hrs, and 56 minutes since I last
wrote on here.
Here is an outline of what my last
two weeks have looked like:

1. School work
(if only putting on my square framed glasses
actually made me smarter;)
2. My beautiful sister came to visit
3. My wonderful boyfriend came to visit
4. My brother had his 33rd birthday
(what the heck do you get your older
brother except a Zombie survival guide?)
5. Work
(in the retail business Christmas is pounding on the door; yikes!)
6. Family movie night
(Please, watch The Help...I cried and laughed)
7. Family Dinner Night
(my sister-in-law made the appetizer, I made the
main course, and yes, my brother made dessert).

I hope this list is an adequate enough excuse for
my absence.
Happy Saturday to you!

Lunch With Miss Margaret

Yesterday I had the pleasure of having lunch with Miss Margaret.
Miss Margaret is my 61 year old friend.
She makes me laugh...a lot.
Example:
Finding a place to eat yesterday
she said, "Libby, I'll eat anywhere
(besides the Olive Garden)
as long as I know what my
food was before it was killed."

She told me over lunch that
she use to love to watch boxing...
that one day she would like to go to Cuba...
and that she almost took her brand
new Infiniti back to the dealership
because she couldn't figure out how
to start it with the new push button.
She said,"I asked for one with just a
regular key, but they said, Ma'am  they
don't come like that now."
Thank you, Miss Margaret for being my friend.

This Week's Favorites

I realize more, and more that often it's the "small"
things that can bring us joy & happiness.

For me, these are a few of the things
that have brought me that!

Emma's sleepy look
Remy watching for squirrels
out my window.
My own personal coffee cup,
sent as a surprise from my friend.
Receiving my favorite magazine,
and waiting until the evening
to slowly look through it.

and realize they were the big things."

My Evening In

I have to confess after I got home from work
I laid down on my bed and...
yes, I fell asleep BUT for only
a little while.
I got up, splashed water on my face,
and sat down to do my homework.

Is that a bowl of ice
cream in the background?

 Studying requires good music.
Thank you Miles Davis for
providing that, this evening.

Yes, that is Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
on my desk...please don't judge me!

"Do you have any stickers?"

Today there was a mother and her son, who came
into the store. They walked around looking, and
then brought up their finds to the cash registrar.
While I was wrapping up the items, I suddenly
realized there was Henry (I found out that was
his name:) standing right next to me...I turned
and he said with his big eyes looking very serious,
"Do you have any stickers?" I replied, "No, I'm
sorry, I don't have any stickers." He got quiet and
then said, "What can I do?" I told him that he could
take the bag full of their purchases to his mother.
He took it from my hands, hurriedly ran around to
the front of the counter and plunked it on the floor
then ran back and asked,"Do you have any stickers?"
I told him no, again and he asked, "What canI do?"
I handed him the receipt and told him he could go
take it to his mother. He ran with the receipt then
hurried back, and asked...yes, you guessed it,
"Do you have any stickers?" I found it very
difficult not to laugh right then because he was
so expectant, not rude, just expectant; almost
as if I could at any moment hand him these
mysterious stickers.
By this time, his mother said, "Henry, lets go,
this isn't the type of store that has stickers." He
looked at me one last time, and  I told him as he
was leaving, "I wish I had some stickers for you."
Maybe I should carry some in my pocket for those
days when little "Henrys" simply ask,
"Do you have any stickers?"

Wonder

This morning I was sitting, with my
niece on my lap, and I put on music for
us to listen to. She sat stilly and just listened.
It made me think that for a child, sounds,
smells, touch, sights; all of it seems to
fill them with wonder...and I love that.
won der
1. a cause of astonishment or admiration

2. rapt attention or astonishment at something
awesomely mysterious or new to one's experience

It is the source of all true art and science."
Albert Einstein

 for beauty is God's handwriting."

The Joy in Eating Out

Tonight, after I got done with work, I went out to eat with my family and some friends. Ever since I was little, I've always loved eating out, especially for dinner. When I was growing up, I always knew eating out was a special treat, and it still feels like that now that I'm grown up.
My family use to tease me because I would order the same thing every time. Even when I would say "I'll try something new this time" I would always order the 3 piece fried, chicken dinner.
I think what makes eating out so special is you get to choose a dish that makes your stomach smile, you don't have to do any of the dishes and it's shared with people you love or care about.
I hope this week you will be able to share a meal with the ones you love and laugh with.

On The Eve of a New Year

On this New Year's Eve I don't hear the sounds of club music or the
crowded streets of Time Square;
instead, I hear the sounds of my parents, laughing
and talking and I am so thankful for that sound.
Before a new year begins I would like to write that
I am deeply thankful for my
 Family and Friends.
Happy New Year to you and the ones you love.
"The object of a new year is not that we should have a new year. It is
that we should have a new soul."
~G.K. Chesterton

For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.

To Study

I know it has been a long time since I have written and posted anything on my blog. No, my computer did not break down, and no my fingers have not all been broken. So, my reason for not writing has been...
To Study
1: [Noun] Literally, a setting of the mind or thoughts upon a subject; hence, application of mind of books, to arts or science, or to any subject, for the purpose of learning what is not before known.
Over the past two months I had been studying different subjects (specifically Mathematics) in order to take the GED test. This was a step I needed to take in order to then apply for college (another story, at another time). On December 3rd I went to the adult learning center and took my GED test and...I now have my certificate in my room!
I am realizing a little more each day that Learning is not always quick and easy,
but it is so good for me and the more I try it, the more I love it.
I am very pleased to say that I will be posting, and writing again on here, and
I hope in the New Year  you will enjoy the stories and pictures that will appear!

Sincerely,
Libby

The Fair

Last week on a sunny, breezy, day I went to the South Carolina State Fair with my family. It had been a long time since I had been to the fair but as soon as I entered the fair grounds it smelled so familiar. Funnel cakes, french fries, Italian sausage sandwiches...the typical and loved fare.
After eating lunch I went to the animal barns and my favorite were the piglets...
I didn't have the heart to tell them that I had just finished eating a sausage sandwich.
I didn't go through the haunted house or play any games but it was so fun for me and a perfect
way to begin Fall.

Fighting with my brother

I got in a fight with my brother yesterday. It was bloody, brutal and painful...I got a few good punches in but ultimately I lost. Do you know what hurt the most? My thumbs and fingers.
You see my brother and I were fighting against each other through a small handheld controller;
yes it was a UFC video game (I didn't even know that UFC stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship).
One moment I felt victorious and then in the next moment...well lets just say when you have to ask "What does this button do?" it might mean you're going to lose and NOT be the ultimate champion.
But it was fun:)

My New Home

Tomorrow I will have been here in South Carolina for two weeks; my new home.
I love being here, living with my brother Michael and my sister-in-law Manuela...
oh and for someone who loves big dogs I am in pet heaven; they have two German Shepherds.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of my new home.

Thank You, Starbucks

My last night in Boise, my friend Pristine
and I went to have a last coffee at Starbucks.
There was one particular shop we both liked so
that is where we found ourselves on a Tuesday evening.
We sat in brown overstuffed chairs by the window; her with
her hot Chai and me with my iced Carmel Macchiato.
We sat there talking and laughing. It was simple and I loved
that is how I got to spend my last night there.
So, thank you Starbucks.

Goodbye...Hello

Tomorrow at 1:09 p.m. I will step onto an airplane, look over my shoulder and say goodbye to Boise, Idaho; my home for the past two years. I had a city that I got to
explore and make my own,  a job I fell in love with, and
became friends with some wonderful men and women,
whose faces I hope to see again one day.
In saying "goodbye", I can say "hello" to Columbia, South Carolina.
Waiting there will be my family (Michael & Manuela, I can't wait:)
a new city, a new job, a new education...a new home.
What more could I ask for?

An Unexpected Laugh

I was in the car, stopped at a red light when I saw
a truck pass me and I actually burst out laughing.
The reason? In the truck there was a big hound dog
sticking his head out the window, ears flapping in the wind
with (what looked like to me) a huge grin on its face.
It just made me laugh for some reason.

"If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater. . . suggest that he wear a tail."
Fran Lebowitz

"You can say any fool thing to a dog, and the dog will give you this look that says, `My God, you're RIGHT! I NEVER would've thought of that!'"
