Sew, A Needle Pulling Thread

I have this drawer that is filled with
bits of ribbon, spools of thread,
pieces of fabric and ideas that
have not yet come to pass.
One day I'd like to sew...
A Dress
A vintage inspired blouse
A pair of gray, wool dress pants
I don't have a sewing machine (maybe
one day!) so for now, a needle and thread
will do just fine for those occasional
experiments and fallen off buttons.

My Evening In

I have to confess after I got home from work
I laid down on my bed and...
yes, I fell asleep BUT for only
a little while.
I got up, splashed water on my face,
and sat down to do my homework.

Is that a bowl of ice
cream in the background?

 Studying requires good music.
Thank you Miles Davis for
providing that, this evening.

Yes, that is Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
on my desk...please don't judge me!

Canine Headshots

I am a dog lover...especially when
it comes to our dogs. I love being
able to be affectionate with them
and they make me laugh...ALOT!

"Hi Libby what are you doing?"
"Do you need me to get closer?"
"Is this close enough?"
"Whew, I'm a little tired"
"I mean really tired"
"REALLY, REAALLLLLY tired!"

Learning

This week I had a midterm for one of
my college classes.
I don't know about you but I get nervous
before taking a test/exam/midterm. Nervous
to the point that often I have dreams about
it and I wake up thinking, "Oh gosh,
everything I studied for just left
 my brain!"
The things I do like about taking an
exam are:
*Allowance to have more coffee
AND
Realizing that maybe I've remembered
more I've what I have been learning,
 than I thought I did.
"The more studying you do for the exam,
the less sure you are as to which answer
they want."

"Few minds wear out; most rust out."
~Christian Nextell Bovee

out of ten things I did were failures, so i did
ten times more work."

Another One's Talent (Lucy Snowe Photography)

One of my favorite things is to take pictures
and going in hand with that, I love to
look at other people's photographs.
I just found Lucy Snowe Photography
today and I wanted to share some of
my favorites with you.

Twin Calves
*This reminded of when my mother
would feed the calves each morning.

Reach for the Sky
*This reminded me how much I love
to watch dance.

Mother and Daughter
*I know this photo is titled "Mother
and Daughter" but for some reason it
reminded me of how my sister has always
been there for me.

Mid Century Art for Men
*This one reminded me to have a
road trip adventure one day.

your wonderfully creative
photos)

Thank you, Bon Appetit

This afternoon when I got home from
work I looked down at the coffee table
and saw May's issue of Bon Appetit
I have a love for food magazines,
cookbooks, and pretty much anything
pertaining to cooking delicious food.
One of the things I love about Bon
Appetite is, simply looking at the
cover makes me want to cook
something special; then laying in
bed at night, looking through the
recipes and pictures from all over
the world...well it feels like my
 little
 piece
of
 luxury.
Note: I was inspired to cook,
so for dinner I made:
* Rosemary & Lemon Chicken
and Pesto Fettucini

"Do you have any stickers?"

Today there was a mother and her son, who came
into the store. They walked around looking, and
then brought up their finds to the cash registrar.
While I was wrapping up the items, I suddenly
realized there was Henry (I found out that was
his name:) standing right next to me...I turned
and he said with his big eyes looking very serious,
"Do you have any stickers?" I replied, "No, I'm
sorry, I don't have any stickers." He got quiet and
then said, "What can I do?" I told him that he could
take the bag full of their purchases to his mother.
He took it from my hands, hurriedly ran around to
the front of the counter and plunked it on the floor
then ran back and asked,"Do you have any stickers?"
I told him no, again and he asked, "What canI do?"
I handed him the receipt and told him he could go
take it to his mother. He ran with the receipt then
hurried back, and asked...yes, you guessed it,
"Do you have any stickers?" I found it very
difficult not to laugh right then because he was
so expectant, not rude, just expectant; almost
as if I could at any moment hand him these
mysterious stickers.
By this time, his mother said, "Henry, lets go,
this isn't the type of store that has stickers." He
looked at me one last time, and  I told him as he
was leaving, "I wish I had some stickers for you."
Maybe I should carry some in my pocket for those
days when little "Henrys" simply ask,
"Do you have any stickers?"

Good Morning, Saturday

My favorite way to begin my day is with a hot
cup of coffee.

If I were drinking coffee in
Boston...
Old Havana Mug

If I were drinking coffee in
New York City...
Semiotics Juice Glass

If I were drinking coffee in
Seattle...
Bright Morning Teacups

And if I were drinking coffee curled up
on my couch...

For Elsie

This morning my mother called to tell me
that during the night our family friend
had passed. Her name was Elsie.
Elsie Fox.
She had snow white hair,
and piercing blue eyes.
She raised a boy as her
son, who was not her son by birth.
She never minced words,
but she wasn't cruel.
She was smart because she
chose to never stop learning.
She was an avid reader.
She use to clip her fingernails
during church...it always
made me giggle.
She lost her husband but
never grew bitter.
She use to say, "You never know
the condition of someone's heart."

She lived to be 92 and I am
so thankful for her life.

"How lucky I am to have known
someone who was so hard to
say goodbye to."

Run

I am not a runner. In fact the picture
below would describe me.
BUT my friend Tina, is a runner.
She looks more like this...
This Saturday she will be running a half marathon.
*A half marathon is a road running event of
13.1094 miles.
Her...
Me...(the one in the yellow)
Her...
And I wish this could be me, cheering her on.

All I Need (Song of the day)

All I Need by Mat Kearney
Here it comes it's all blowing in tonight
I woke up this morning to a blood red sky
They're burning on the bridge turning off the lights
We're on the run I can see it in your eyes
If nothing is safe then I don't understand
You call me your boy but I'm trying to be the man
One more day and it's all slipping with the sand
You touch my lips and grab the back of my hand
The back of my hand
Guess we both know we're in over our heads
We got nowhere to go and no home that's left
The water is rising on a river turning red
It all might be OK or we might be dead
If everything we've got is slipping away
I meant what I said when I said until my dying day
I'm holding on to you, holding on to me
Maybe it's all gone black but you're all I see
You're all I see

The walls are shaking, I hear them sound the alarm
Glass is breaking so don't let go of my arm
Grab your bags and a picture of where we met
All that we'll leave behind and all that's left
If everything we've got is blowing away
We've got a rock and a rock till our dying day
I'm holding on to you, holding on to me
Maybe it's all we got but it's all I need
You're all I need
And if all we've got, is what no one can break,
I know I love you, if that's all we can take,
the tears are coming down, they're mixing with the rain,
I know I love you, if that's all we can take.

A pool is running for miles on the concrete ground
We're eight feet deep and the rain is still coming down
The TV's playing it all out of town
We're grabbing at the fray for something that won't drown
Note: It's pouring outside my window as
I write this, and I've liked this song by
Mat Kearney ever since I first heard it.
It seemed fitting somehow for today.

Sisters

This morning I got to talk to my sister Susan.
*She makes me laugh.
*She is the best hairstylist I've ever had
(even when I would say "ouch!" when
she would yank my hair combing it out)
*She has always been there for me.
*Did I mention she makes me laugh?
*She understands my sense of humor.
*She is the only person I've let wax my eyebrows
(I did have an allergic reaction to the wax...
my eyebrows were red for about 3 days)
*She always tells me I'm thin
(how could I not love her?)
*She is sassy
*She is loyal
*She is generous
*She is my sister and my friend...
I'm so lucky.

I love you, Susan
